I'm Still Here...Glad All of You Were So Worried

I found this in my drafts, not sure why I didn't post it.......

I haven't been here in a while and I'm sure you all were wondering and worrying about where I was.  I thought I would log on and find at least ONE comment asking where I was, but NOOOOOO.  I'm glad you all care so much!'s a bunch of random thoughts of what's going on.

I decided a part time job is better than no job, so I am working again.  It feels good to be in the land of the living and out of the pajamas during daylight hours.  The job is NOT the dream job I'm searching for, but it is mindless and it puts some $$$$ in my pocket.

I still need to decorate for Christmas and I'm starting to freak out a little since all I have up is a wreath above the fireplace.  I need 3 days, minimum, to decorate like I want to, but if I put up one of the trees this week, I'll feel better.

I've been obsessed with hand lettering and calligraphy lately.  I apologize to you that follow me on Pinterest.  I know I have bogged down your feed with letting pins and tonight, pins of quotes that I will use as practice.  I'm considering buying some calligraphy pens and just experimenting.  I'd really like to take a class or find some sort of "how to" to learn the basics.  I've decided my third "dream job" would be calligrapher.  I should have majored in graphic design.

As soon as the pond is frozen there will be an ice/hockey rink in the backyard.  I've been told there will also be lights put on the upper deck so there can be night games.  The last time I skated was in college. The sorority I was in did a philanthropic event, we ice skated with the visually impaired.  (Shelly if you are reading this, notice I didn't say the blind.)  That was 20 years ago and probably more pounds than years.  That means you will probably see injury pictures in the near future.

On a side note, as I was searching Facebook for a picture of the ice skating event, I found an album belonging to one of my sorority sisters title "FUPA Weekend."  I giggled.  Hopefully one of you will get the reference.  I apologize to the person who owns this album, I can't shut off this mind and its thoughts.

I have been to CVS twice today because  Babboo is under the weather.  I rarely get sick, but when I do, its the end of the world.  Along with the medicine I bought for Babboo, I got one of the nasal decongestant inhalers for myself.  For some reason I love the smell of vapor rub.  Maybe it will help with the constant sneezing at work.

Maybe someday soon I will have a cohesive post that isn't a bunch of random BS.

I Love Bracelets

I'm a sucker for bracelets.  I like jewelry in general, what girl doesn't, but I really like bracelets.  I don't wear them to work for fear they will get caught on something and break, but I still buy them.  I found these online the other day and I'm considering buying a couple.

I love the "Be Brave" saying on them and you can pick the cause you support and $10 from each bracelet goes to that cause.  These are a couple of the Rhett Syndrome bracelets.  My sorority sister's daughter has Rhett Syndrome, so if you love the bracelets like I do and don't know what cause to give to, choose Rhett.  There's lots of styles and colors to choose from.

For any of my high school friends, there's also bracelets that support Batten Disease too.

I Should Have Been A Party Planner

I love parties. When I say that, I mean I love to plan parties, attending them is OK too.  Today I've started to plan an intimate birthday for a two year old. That's right I said 2. Jameson is turning 2!

This, oh so sweet boy is turning 2 on the 26th. I've mostly been trying to figure out his cake. I might do tennis balls or maybe a dog bowl cake.

This is what I whipped up last minute last year. I think they turned out pretty good.  
They were a carrot cake cupcake with mashed potato frosting and mini milk bone decoration. 
He loved his cupcakes, not his hat.

Privacy Please

Very soon I will be taking all the blogs to a higher privacy setting.  They will be open to people who are on "the list" only.  Basically you will have to give me your email address and then I can send you an invitation.  You will have to log in to read the blog once this privacy setting goes into effect.

I know this sounds like a big pain in the ass, but I don't need any future employers reading about my snark, or how I hate people, while I tell them I'm a people person.  I think you understand.

I'm also considering just making them totally private, still writing posts, and letting you all catch up later on.  We shall see.

That goes for the same on the Facebook front.  I will probably be off the grid for awhile, but sneak on at 1 am to see how you're all doing.  Hopefully when I return, it will be with good news of a great job, a planned vacation to someplace warm, and a picture of my manicure.

I'm exhausted. I have a headache. People are annoying me and I can't really say anything to them or say exactly why on the edge of having a big fucking ugly cry melt down. I'm so annoyed I'm ignoring grammar and spelling here because I don't give two shits let alone one.

Help Me I'm Poor

Well I have finally put my pride, stubbornness, and/or stupidity aside and asked for help finding a job.  I sent a message to a friend back home and he graciously said he would help.  I think I'm going to contact some others too.  People that own their own businesses, that are in a hiring position, anyone that can give me some advice and opinions about my resume and the interview process.

I know what I looked for as a hiring manager, but that is a whole lot of different from the jobs I'm applying for.

I did find one site that has different resume templates to purchase.  I am tired of the "traditional, simple resume and am thinking I might actually purchase a template of make one of my own.

Fashionista I'm Not....

Sometimes I actually click on a link on Pinterest just to be sure I want to pin it to a board.  I did that today on this picture:
The link took me to a page that basically said to half tuck your shirts & sweaters, to roll your sleeves and pants a certain way and these two gems:

The one on the left suggests using the totally 80's peg roll.
The one on the right says to tug your shirts to the side before tying them.

The tying of shirts I'm OK with, especially with a longer, boxy t-shirt.  It looks cute with some cropped boyfriend jeans and flip flops.  Notice I said, "longer."  I definitely would not be tying my shirt underneath my boob.

I'm not really on board with the whole peg rolling of ANYTHING.  I think it's because at one point in my life peg rolling was cool, but in the pictures it looks anything but cool.

Now onto the rest of the elements in these pictures.  What the fuck are they wearing?!

Are those dead palm trees? Are those her pajamas? Are those ankle strap sandals that have the ankle strap concealed by the peg roll?  Is that considered business on the top and party on the bottom? And can we please discuss how far up her pants are pulled?  I guess I should be grateful for the palm trees or marijuana leaves because I'm pretty sure they are camouflaging a camel toe.

The sheer skirt over the mini skirt makes me uncomfortable.  i don't know why.  And once again with the skirt pulled up way too high.  Is this one casual on the top and formal on the bottom?

Is there anyone out there that thinks either of these looks are ok (besides the people in them).  Is there anyone out there that would actually wear either of these outfits?  I'm praying these were not styled, because these stylists should be fired!

I'd love to buy both of these outfits and the next two times I'm meeting Carol for something weari them and see what she says.  If she's a true friend, she'd say what I said, "What the fuck are you wearing!!!!!?????"

Furry Children

This one is going to be short and bitter sweet.  A friend from high school had to end the pain of one of her furry kids today.  It breaks my heart because I know the pain of losing a pet.  Dogs give unconditional love.  Dogs have a way of looking at you and know your heart and soul.  Dogs don't judge you when you are still in your pajamas and it's 4 o'clock.  Dog kisses can ease the pain of so many different kinds of wrongs.

She posted a few pictures  of her obviously very loved dog, Scout, today on Facebook.  Some of the pictures were taken this fall by Emily Lux Photography.  This one is my favorite.

If you have a dog, give it a huge hug and a treat, and remember even when they eat your shoes, get in the garbage, wake you up at 2 a.m. to go out in freezing cold, or have an accident in the house, they love you more than humanly possible.

Keep Calm and Have a Drink

Every time someone gets engaged, I get the urge to plan a wedding.  I think I have a million pins on Pinterest about wedding food, attire, reception ideas, invitations, save the date, you name it.  One idea I love is having a signature wedding cocktail.  I also love the drink menu signs.  I love this one from Etsy

I love gin and tonics, but I know not a lot of people like the "pine tree" drink, as some of my friends call it.  I think a cucumber gimlet is the perfect compromise.  The best cucumber gimlet I've had was at Ocean Prime, it's light and refreshing and super yummy.  Ocean Prime isn't hiding the recipe either, I found this right on their website.  I suggest mixing up a few the next time you want to have something different, and of course order one if you go to Ocean Prime.  

This drink is SOOOO good.  I love gin so this one is a no brainer to order. 

Cucumber GimletIngredients:1 ½ oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin1 oz. Freshly squeezed lime juice1 oz. Simple syrup4 to 5 Slices of cucumber
Preparation:1)    Fill glass with ice2)    Add cucumber, fresh lime and simple syrup to a mixing tin3)    Muddle with three ice cubes until the cucumber is dissolved4)    Add ice to the mixing tin to fill it halfway5)    Shake gently and strain into iced glass and enjoy!

It's one week since New Year's and how many of you have kept your resolution(s)?  How long do your resolutions last?  Have you stopped making resolutions?

A resolution, by definition:


  1. a firm decision to do or not to do something

A Goal on the other hand,

1.  the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.
Do you see the difference here?  AMBITION OR EFFORT
I stopped making resolutions a long time ago, mostly because they would never last and I would feel like a failure when I didn't succeed.  The truth is, I shouldn't have been making resolutions, I should have been making goals that I worked toward with AMBITION OR EFFORT,  AND I shouldn't have waited until New Year's to make them. I set myself up for failure year after year.
This year I made myself some goals.  I won't bore you with the details of each goal, but I will tell you the steps I'm taking to meet my GOALS.
I'm sure all of you have heard the goals should be S.M.A.R.T.  For those of you that aren't familiar with this acronym, S.M.A.R.T. goals are:
  1. Specific
  2. Measureable
  3. Acheivable
  4. Relevant
  5. Time-bound
Saying, "I'm going to lose weight," is not a SMART goal.  Saying, "I'm going to lose 50 pounds in a month," is not a SMART goal.  Saying, "I'm going to lose 40 pounds in 5 months, so I look better and feel better about myself," is a SMART goal, it is, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound.  

Determining your SMART goal is just the start to succeeding.  Next, you have to determine what steps are necessary to succeed.  How about eating healthy and exercising, isn't that what everyone tells us we should do to lose weight?  So how are you going to do that?  Each step must be broken down into smaller steps, tasks that must be done to succeed.  How about, packing a healthy lunch to take to work at least 4 days a week, drinking more water, taking vitamins, exercising at least 40 minutes, a minimum of 4 times a week. 

I know my biggest excuse, when I don't complete something I wanted/needed to get done, is TIME.  If I had a dollar for every time I said, "I didn't have time," I'd be rich. Again, you must figure out how you will utilize your valuable time and that means PLANNING.  Plan your meals, make a shopping list, make your lunch the night before, plan your workouts, have your vitamins separated out for each day of the week, have a system to track your water intake.....

I am a planner freak so the planning is the fun part for me.  Most planners don't work the way I need them to, so making your own planner inserts, or downloading something from the web, may be the best way to get something that will work for you.  

I personally like seeing my week laid out in front of me on one full page with a section for tasks, notes, appointments/important events, and a tracking section.  I  prefer a heavier weight paper than regular printer paper and if I'm feeling ambitious, I'll pick up some cute scrapbooking paper to use.  This is what I use for my week:

It's nothing fancy, but it works for what I need and want.  I also will insert I page bookmark that lists important dates for the entire month so when I turn the page to the following week, there's no surprises.  This gets printed up on cardstock so it survives getting moved every week.

If you aren't ambitious enough or have the know how to make your own weekly planner sheet there are a ton of free calendars that you can download and print.  I personally like the look of these from Smart School House

If you like the full page idea for notes, tracking or whatever you need, just print up multiple copies of each month and you can title each row with your own categories. 

The planning part is ongoing and ever changing.  You really need to put some effort into this part.   

The final thing I do is what some authors have deemed "Evaluate and Review," and have turned SMART goals into SMARTER goals.  Like planning, this is ongoing and this is where some people will become discouraged.  DON'T GET DISCOURAGED IF YOU FALL OFF THE PROVERBIAL WAGON OR HORSE!  GET BACK ON AND RIDE!!!!!!  There will always be bumps in the road or days when all your planning just doesn't make the day go, well, as planned.   Review your tracking, did you make your water goal yesterday?  If not, WHY? Did you exercise as planned?  If not, WHY?  Can you plan your workout for another day to still meet your goal of 4 times a week?  At the end of the first month have you lost enough weight to still make your 40 pounds a realistic goal?  If not, adjust your goal and evaluate why so next month you can meet your goal. 

So go set yourself a SMART(ER) goal or two and once you have achieved what you set out to do, set some more.  Goals shouldn't just be thought of once a year, those are resolutions and resolutions are not the way to succeed.
