Now, before you all start bragging that you are friends with an "award winning blogger," let me explain this award. There are lots of bloggers that receive this award, in fact it's an ongoing, pay it forward type of award. It's the pat on the back for bloggers like me that confirms there are other people, besides my Facebook friends, that are reading and appreciate my blog. THANK YOU AMY! You really made my day!
I would now like to pass on this very prestigious award to Stefanie at It's A Long Story. Stefanie writes posts I enjoy reading. She's a real person.
1. Why did you start your blog?
I actually started blogging years ago, maybe 12 years. I had been surfing the Internet and found a blog I fell in love with, ljcfyi. At that time I wanted to be Jenny, cool job, cool life, super crafty, and a very cool blog. When I started my first blog, the templates weren't like they were now. I spent hours perfecting the colors and fonts and cared less about the content.
Tomorrow is the 2 year anniversary of this blog. I started this blog to write, to blow off steam, as a diary of sorts. I think I just wanted total strangers to read it and know that there are other people out there that aren't living the perfect little Facebook life. Even if no one read another post, I would still write. It's therapeutic.
2. What is your favorite movie?
Of course I have many favorites, who could pick just one? My most recent favorites are The Watch and The Other Woman. I love comedies. The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet is my go to Christmas movie. I will watch The Goonies, The Sandlot, Vacation, Sweet Home Alabama, and any of the Indiana Jones movies when they are on. Julia Roberts is a favorite of mine, so her movies are on the top of the list too. That includes Eat Pray Love, which makes me happy and sad at the same time.
3. Where was your last, best vacation?
It's been so long since I went on a true vacation and God knows I need one. Looking back I would say the trip I took to Spain with my high school Spanish class was amazing. I wish I would have experienced that trip a little later in life so I could appreciate the experience more. At 17 the culture, the art, the architecture, the food, everything except for the fact I could order a cerveza at McDonald's isn't truly experienced the way it should be.
4. Who is your favorite author and why?
I'd love to say Hemingway or Fitzgerald, but I've always enjoyed Stephen King books. I like suspense, horror, and supernatural books. I think he is a genius.
5. What is your most prized possession?
This one was hard for me. I racked my brain to come up with a tangible thing that I loved, that I would be lost without, and couldn't really think of one, thank God. There are many people I would be lost without, my parents, my best friend "Carol," my Sweet Babboo, and my two sweet dogs, but I don't consider them possessions, so I would have to say I am glad to have my humor. It has gotten me through some tough times. It's really true, laughter is the best medicine.
6. Cat or Dog?
Anyone that knows me can answer this. DOG! I grew up with dogs as pets. Yes we had a cat here and there, but the dogs were my friends. I was an only child, so they were my playmates, my confidants. Now as an adult, my dogs, Jameson and Morgan are my furry kids. I love them.
7. What is the most delicious food you have ever eaten?
The list is long and my ass shows it, but I love pasta and seafood, so I will choose a seafood linguine with a touch of truffle oil drizzled on top.
8. What is your favorite quote and by who?
Again, how can I chose just one, I can't.
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." -Plato
"Every man dies, but not every man truly lives." -William Wallace
"We were together, I forget the rest." Walt WhitmanI think the first two ring true for everyone. I've worked with the public for a lot of years and I think people are so quick to be nasty, and you want to be nasty back. The thing is I don't know what they are going through in their lives and they don't know what I'm going through. A little kindness goes a long way and who knows, you could brighten the day of someone that's going through a difficult time.
The Wallace quote is just a reminder that life is short and we all need to find something important and meaningful everyday. You just don't know what day might be your last.
I love the Whitman quote. When your with someone you love, it doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing, you're just happy being in their company.
I could have added a million Dave Matthews Band lyrics to this question, but I'll just say I think he is a brilliant song writer and so many of his lyrics are amazing.
9. If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
My dad's dad died when my dad was two. I would choose him. I wonder what he was like, what his voice sounded like.
10. What is your favorite post that you've written? (Please provide link!)
I think my most favorite post from this blog is Oh Gina You're So Fine, You're So Fine You Blow My Mind....Part 1.
That's it. Those are my answers. Thanks for taking the time to read them and my blog.
